Sunday, March 29

Toksook, day two! Heather and I did some more exploring of the town today while we anxiously awaited the arrival of the school week and kids. We pretty much had the school to ourselves in the morning, but by noon the place was full of teachers. It's just incredible how much time teachers here spend at school. Most come 7 days a week. I can't even imagine.

It was a pretty blustery day and even the locals were calling it a "storm." Fortunately though, the temperature (without wind chill) was still in the 20s so it actually wasn't bad for walking around. Here are some of the things we saw:

A stop sign now the perfect height for snowmachiners, all buried in deep snow...
...A chilly puppy on a rooftop...

...A beautiful snow-covered cemetery...

...and many snowmachines and four-wheelers, the only motorized mode of transportation around.

On our last night of freedom, we crept through the hallways and took pictures of all of the classrooms so that we could remember them without students. It was pretty fun! The madness begins tomorrow!!

This will be a great experience. I am sure some days will be difficult and some will be really fun. I wish you the best! Oh, and it looks like Chevak. :)

More please, it's nice to see what's going on out there. Some pictures of kids and the school would be great. Love you
